Mop systems: pad, spinning or roller?
The mop underneath a robot can be a passive cloth, a pair of rotating pads or a continuously refreshed roller. Mechanism changes what the robot can potentially do, but good hardware still needs good pressure, water control, routing and dock cleaning.

What actually matters
Simple drag pads are cheap and useful for light wiping. Spinning pads add active scrubbing. Roller systems can continuously refresh the cleaning surface and may handle wet mess more effectively. Carpet protection also matters: some robots lift, detach or shield their mop system when crossing rugs.
- Drag pads suit light maintenance wiping and are mechanically simple.
- Spinning pads add agitation and are common on stronger vacuum-mop combinations.
- Rollers can continually present a cleaner surface, but design quality and water handling still determine results.
